A Message from the Grand Knight

It is wonderful to be at a point in our Council’s history that we can once again turn our attention to charitable endeavors.  While perusing the annals of our order’s history, I encountered an anecdote that brings to mind our current situation.  In 1932, at the height of the Great Depression, the famous Bonus Army made its way across the country with its sites set on Washington, D.C.  They were owed money by the federal government.  Because of the financial straits in which they found themselves, they were demanding payment for their service immediately.  In Fort Wayne, Indiana, seventy-one members of the Bonus Army found themselves destitute and desperate.  It was at this time that the Knights of Columbus stepped forward to feed the starving former servicemen.  In these difficult economic times, let us continue to draw upon our order’s illustrious charitable history and give what we can to those less fortunate.  Have a healthy and safe summer.

Fraternally,                                                                Christopher C. Farley

Constitution/Bylaws

Having amended the bylaws and constitution by Council vote on February 1, 2009, therefore, it is resolved that all actions, declarations, resolutions, and commitments made in the name of W. J. Boyd Council #326 since May 5, 1985, (closing date of Grand Concourses Bronx location) are hereby validated and ratified effective immediately.

With Gratitude

Because of our membership’s involvement, in particular the support of our annual raffle, Boyd Council is currently experiencing a period of financial stability.  This, in turn, has allowed us to increase our charitable donations.  Recent examples include donations to breast cancer research, suicide prevention, and Calvary Hospital.

The ripple effect of your generosity has permitted us to assist those less fortunate, which is its own reward.  Boyd and untold others thank you.

The New Place

The Council’s Annual  pilgrimage to Queens baseball and its first ever to spanking new Citi Field will be held on July 11th of this year.  The cost of $80 includes a ticket to the Mets vs. Reds, roundtrip bus transportation for the 7:10 PM start, and refreshments at the Council prior to the game.  Anyone interested may contact Chris Farley at (914) 844-7432.

Fore!

The Annual Boyd “Keep on Hopin’” Open Golf Outing will be held this year on Friday, September 11th at Dunwoodie Golf Course.  The cost of the affair will be $110, which includes green fees, golf cart, a lavish dinner, and bottomless refreshments.  Any member in good standing wishing to attend should contact Chairman Rich Condon at (914) 231-5285.

Raindrops Keep Falling

One of the wettest springs on record has played havoc with all outdoor athletic teams from tee ball to the major leagues and the New York Chapter Softball League is no exception.  Despite this, Boyd currently sports a

6-0 record and welcomes all members and their families to attend upcoming games.  Anyone interested should contact skipper Brian Farley at (914) 424-2106.

Assistance Required

Mail addressed to John J. Naughton, Howard F. Carroll, and James J. Gallagher has been returned to the Council.  Anyone able to assist may leave word at the Council.  Thank you.

One of Our Own

The Council wishes to congratulate publicly our own Carmine Tabacco on his recent election as New York Chapter Treasurer.  Our long time Financial Secretary, Carmine has served the Council tirelessly and professionally, often under the radar.  Congratulations, not only to Carmine, but also to the Chapter for their astuteness in recognizing and advancing an individual of Carmine’s caliber.
