Membership Meeting:

Due to the fact that Christmas falls on a Thursday this year, the monthly membership meeting will be held on Thursday December 18th at 7:30 PM.  The enclosed proposed resolution will be presented to the membership for their approval at that time.

In Prayerful Remembrance of the Faithful Departed

Thomas J. Clarkin

A Message from the Grand Knight

I would like to take this opportunity to wish you a belated happy Thanksgiving and to express my excitement for the approaching Christmas season.  For our order, the month of December bears particular spiritual importance.  I urge you to bear in mind the true significance of the season as you deal with the hassles that this time of year always throws our way.

December is an important month for our Council.  We are in the home stretch of our annual raffle, which has long provided financial stability to W.J. Boyd.  The raffle committee has done a commendable job once again in helping us toward the finish line, and our membership has once again provided a great deal of support.  In celebration of the Christmas season, we will be holding our annual Christmas party on the evening of Saturday, December 13th.  The winning raffle ticket will be drawn at this joyous event.  I urge you to stop by and celebrate with fellow Knights and their families.  A splendid time is guaranteed for all.

Fraternally,                                                                Christopher C. Farley

$10,000 Raffle

You still have a chance to have a green Christmas by buying a raffle ticket in Boyd’s Annual $10,000 Raffle.  The cost of each ticket is $100 and only 200 will be sold.  A $10,000 prize will be awarded at the Boyd Christmas Party held at the Council on Saturday evening, December 13th.   Time is short.  Don’t get shut out. To buy a ticket, contact Raffle Chairman Ken McLaughlin immediately.  Ken can be reached at 618 Yonkers Ave. Yonkers, NY 10704, at (914) 377-4881, and at guinness618@optonline.net.

Tis The Season

Steve Carlson and Jim Casey once again will serve as Boyd’s “Toys For Tots” emissaries.  Any member wishing to participate may bring a new unwrapped toy to the Boyd Christmas party on Saturday December 13th and these members will see to it that through your generosity Christmas will be brightened for those less fortunate.  Additionally, Andrea Cuggy is collecting empty metallic cookie tins for shipment overseas to United States military personnel.  These can be dropped at the Council either at the membership meeting or at the Christmas party.  Thank you.

Ho Ho Ho

The Annual W.J. Boyd Christmas Party will be held on Saturday evening December 13th at 7:30 at the Council.  The affair will be free for those who have entered into the $10,000 raffle, and a nominal sum will be charged for those who have not.  Additionally, Super Bowl boxes costing $25 will go on sale that evening.  Hope to see you.

Giving Back

The Annual NY Chapter Communion Breakfast will be held at Calvary Hospital on Sunday morning February 1st at 9:00 AM.  Calvary Hospital, which administers exclusively to the terminally ill, has been the primary charitable recipient for the Knights of Columbus for decades.  The cost for the affair is $10 and any member wishing to attend may leave word at the Council.

Super Gathering

The Council’s Annual Super Bowl bash will be held on Sunday, February 1st at 5:00. The price of $40 will include dinner and refreshments throughout the evening.  All are welcome, but space is limited.  Call or write the Council promptly.

In This Corner

Boxing czar Tom Mooney wishes to advise the membership that the Council will be open for two upcoming matches: January 17th featuring Duday vs. Hearns and a February 14th match between Jennings and Cotto.  (What better way to spend Valentine’s Day!)  Doors open at 9:30 PM and there is no admission charge.  Refreshments are available at Boyd’s can’t be beat prices.

Past Due

It is a little known fact among the membership that Boyd Council is assessed $12 per member per year by the local, state, and national branches of the Knights of Columbus.  This tax is levied whether the member is in good standing or not.  The following members are two years ($80) in arrears.

Kevin J. Carlson          Christopher Collins     Joseph J. Cuomo                     Brian M. Curley

Patrick Daly                John Egan                   Michael P. Kenny                   Daniel G. King

Anthony A. Manzo     Raul Miramon             Brendan P. O’Keefe Jr.          Michael J. Sheridan

Francis G. Walsh

Please either remit promptly or advise us in writing to remove your name from our roster so that the Council can stop incurring needless cost.  Thank you.
