teams.  Games take place one night a week from October through January at various Bronx councils.  Experience is not necessary, so just

come out and enjoy the competition and the camaraderie. Anyone interested can either call the Hot Line (914) 237 - 2747 and leave a message

Softball Report

The W.J. Boyd softball team has wrapped up the regular season with a 9 - 4 record, good enough for 3rd place and a playoff spot.

The team was led by All-Stars Mike Kelly, John Mallon, Mike Ostrander, Chris Stoll and Mgr. John Honan ( All-Star game MVP ).

Manager John Honan feels there is more than enough talent on this team to bring home the first ever Richie Santiago League Championship

Trophy.

Update - The Boyd softball has swept Vera Cruz ( league champs since 1986, when Boyd last won ) in the first round to advance to the

championship round.  Please call the Hotline for Championship round times and locations.  Come out and support your team.

Monday Night Football Pool

The softball team is sponsoring a Monday Night Football box pool that will run for the length of the NFL season ( 17 weeks ).  The

cost for the season is $85.00, payable prior to the start of the season, and there will be $1700.00 in prize money up for grabs.  Here's a chance

to support your softball team, as well as add some excitement while viewing the Monday night games.  The boxes are moving fast so see John

Honan or JJ Jordan at Old-Timer's Day , or call the Hotline as soon as possible.

Daze and Knights

Nice to see so many Columbiettes come out for our annual Yonkers Raceway Evening - looked like it was even a profitable venture for

some of the lovely ladies.....Is that Boyd's own John Stephens who keeps appearing in the news as one of the stalwarts of stickball.....Chris Farley,

son of our DGK Dennis Farley hoped to experience his first taste of champagne when Knicks won the NBA championship - maybe the Boyd

softball team can offer him another opportunity to celebrate.....We hear that Ray "Red" Dunne and his wife spent some time overseas this year - were

the Bobbies and Gendarmes alerted in advance ?.....Our congratulations go out to Joe Carey and his wife on the arrival of their first child, a baby girl.....

Also hear that JJ Jordan and his wife were blessed with their fourth child - a baby boy.....Speaking of children, Zachary Tabacco will be starting

Fordham Prep next year and Marianne Farley is headed up to the Ursuline Academy to start her high school career.....Best wishes to Boyd softball

team members Brian Curley and Billy Ostrander who will be walking down the aisle in the Fall - and, thankfully, not with each other.....Most of us

are familiar with the terms "birdie" and "eagle" on the golf course, but Carmine Tabacco bagged a snake the other day and Richie Condon is still

trying to figure out how to mark that down.....We hear that Mike Gilmore is working hard on his dart game while his wife is in Ireland - often practicing

into the wee hours of the morning.....Ryan Malloy writes to tell us he has relocated from Denver to Aspen, where he manages a Charthouse restaurant.

Says he hopes to visit some time in 1994.....If Rich Bellotti offers you a ride somewhere, don't go unless he's got John White and his trusty screw

driver in the car.....Anyone seen or heard from John Foran - he used to be so dependable with his phone calls.....When Tom Sweeney starts up

his chant of "defense" ( never before heard at Boyd softball games ), one can only wonder - are Spike Lee and his towel far behind ?.....
